- Admission to hospital on the morning of surgery
- Hospitals: surgery is performed at The Hills Private Hospital, Strathfield Private Hospital and Prince of Wales Private Hospital.
- Fasting from midnight the night before surgery
- Meet the anaesthetist, surgeon, assistant surgeon and nursing staff
- Operation: The gastric banding operation takes about 75-90 minutes.
- Recovery: on waking in the recovery ward, most patients have an iv drip, and drains are not usually required
- Analgesia is given intra-operatively and in recovery if required.
- Nil by mouth on day of operation
- Monitoring by nursing staff in ward, some patients may require high dependency care if suffering from sleep apnoea.
